Michael Thomas Thoughts on Poetry, Short Stories, Essays, and Ramblings-It's All Here in...

Welcome to Michael's Website
My name is Michael Thomas. I am a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a college literature and composition teacher. I also happen to have been writing poetry since as long as I can remember. I have been extremely lucky in my life to have been able to turn my favorite hobby into the primary subject of my academic study and one of the subjects which I am able to teach. I love to read poetry and read about poets. I love to talk about poetry and talk about poets. I love to argue about poetry since I disagree with many Modern to contemporary ideas about poetry, but I prefer that the arguments are civil, knowledgeable, and well-considered. No one should ever been turned away from poetry because of inane and uncivil discussions about it.
In the early 2000's, after more than a handful of "We regret to inform you" rejection notices, I self-published three volumes of poetry: The Purple and Blue Collection of Poems, The Mercy Killing: The Death of Poetry, and The Joy of Shadows. I believe that I have earned a total of $19.24 on all three books. Still, I am not discouraged. I have kept on writing, and, I hope, getting better and better.
My current volume of poetry Atheists and Empty Spaces was published in August 2022. It is the product of years of very careful craftsmanship. I hope that I can get readers to enjoy it.
In my blog, I have also started a series of short stories "written" by a character named Dewey Lynne Bugler. I was sort of doing it for kicks when people started telling me how much they enjoyed Uncle Boog and the Dogfight, so I have kept on going.
I have a novel, tentatively named The Doll, that is actually finished--or should I say--brought to a conclusion. Who knows? I may put it here too.
My wife, Kellie, and I are walkers and hikers, and we like to take lots of pictures. You will also find our pictures here.
Please enjoy everything that is offered here and always remember to contact me and tell me what you want to read or view. I am always listening.
